If you clicked on this I guess that means you actually want to read about me. If you clicked in error or you're just plain not interested, I'll give you a minute to hit the back arrow.... Okay, for those of you still here, I'm Craig Recla, and I'm the band director in the Iron Mountain Public School System. I have been teaching for eleven years, all of which were with this district. I was born and raised in the local area, and graduated from Kingsford High School in 1999. I know, I know, Kingsford! Don't worry, I am a converted and loyal Mountaineer now. While at KHS I had the privilege of studying under Mr. Ben Sherk, and he was one of people that inspired me to choose a career in teaching. My father TIm Recla was also a band director, teaching in the Norway School system, and he was a huge influence on me as well. He gave me my first trumpet lesson at age 6, and I played my first recital for my 2nd grade class! He also taught me how to play guitar when I was 15, and I have really enjoyed playing in several different rock/acoustic/jazz groups over the years. After graduating from high school I attended Northern Michigan University, graduating with a bachelor's degree in music education in May of 2004. While at NMU I studied trumpet under Dr. John Cooper, who really pushed me to develop into the musician that I am today. Music has always been a huge part of my life, and my goal each day is to inspire my students to experience it in the way that I do.
I currently live in Iron Mountain with my wife Erin, and our kids Mason and Myles (10 year old twins), Georgia (6), and Timmy (6). Oh, and of course Miles the dog (9 year old food stealing, barking, jumping, lovable lab). In our free time we love to spend as much time as possible at our camp, on the pontoon boat, hunting, fishing, or just enjoying the outdoors. I also gig frequently with my bands Glass Joe, Glass Joe acoustic, and the Phil Lynch Jazz Trio.
